If you want to reuse and repurpose materials, using salvaged wood is a big aspect of sustainable design. However, reclaimed wood may enhance your home in a variety of other ways.
Reclaimed wood is interesting to use because it can give a space personality, intrigue, warmth, and texture. Old beams and worn boards can give modern or new construction a sense of the past. A kitchen or house may benefit from using ceiling planks to provide charm, warmth, and a European vibe.
Where to Place Them
There are countless applications for reclaimed wood, just your creativity is the limit. Here are some ideas for using recycled wood, along with examples of how we’ve used it.
- Wood headboards can influence the mood of the bedroom.
- A mantelpiece made of beams is an option.
- A bathroom or kitchen countertop
- island peaks
- Walls
- the wood floors
- Ceiling Beams Tables
Where to Get Reclaimed Wood
One supply of wood that readily comes to mind is old barns. These planks can also be salvaged from demolished hotels, residences, or even factories. You might already have some lovely wood on the attic floor or beneath the drywall if you own an older house.
Boards discovered when a roof was removed to make room for a second story serve as another supply. A gold mine can be found when raising an attic to create a second floor, or more accurately, a “wood” mine.
